Cheer Weekend

We had a totally full cheer weekend. Who could ask for more? LOL :) You know - my girl is getting so big and she can do so much now. She is my youngest - so I have been feeling melancholy about her growing up. Today, however, I got a little boost. As we were leaving the competition, we passed two older cheerleaders - and I heard one say to the other "Oh my gosh! Look how little she is!! Too cute." It was just a quick comment and they were on their way - but it went a long way towards warming my heart♥ She'll still be my little girl - even when she's 35.

Just one more

Had to share just one more of this super sweet little one!!

My Obsession

On New Year's weekend the SYFY channel ran a 24 hour Twilight Zone marathon. I recorded the whole thing. By then, I was so hooked that I had to get the entire TZ collection on DVD. I LOVE this show! It's so original and totally unique. I really enjoy losing myself in it for a little while. Gotta go - time for some TZ!!

1-28-10

So, I am posting my 365 on Facebook too - and sometimes I don't get around to posting it here too. I am trying - but real life just seems to get in the way.

If you are also doing a 365 project - how are you doing with it? I am thinking that it will be so much easier once it is Spring/Summer. By the time I am home at night - it's dark. That means I am forced to do my 365 mostly in my house - and that is sure getting old.

This one is of my dining room light! LOL :)

GLEE :)

Yes, it is probably sinful how excited I get at the release of the new Spring/Summer catalogs!! It may be months away - but I love summer. The colors, the warm air, the scent of barbeque, the boardwalk at night, the beach - gosh I could on and on.

These catalogs arrived today - can you imagine the glee at getting 3 in one day!?
My daughter loves to sit down with these and circle everything she loves with a pen. Looks like she has her eyes on the front cover of Garnet Hill this time.

Right now it's a whisper...but I swear I here something calling softly outside..."one day I'll be back...and I'll bring with me sweet breezes and warm memories. Just you wait."

Catch Up

I was out of town this weekend at the JamFest Super Nationals Cheer Competition. Wow - tons of fun and many amazing performances. :) Now I have to play catch up on my 365 commitment.

Here is my shot from Friday 1/15/10 - this is the view of downtown Indianapolis from our hotel.

Saturday's photo 1/16/10 - senior 5 coed cheer - look at this amazing stunt!

Sunday's shot - day two of competition - 1/17/10. Senior five and another great stunt sequence!

Animals are my son's "thing." He loves all kinds. Soooo...I recently saw this shirt floating around the zoo shop - and I knew it needed to come home with me. He loved the message and the color - and so do I ♥

REAL

"What is REAL?" asked the Rabbit one day, when they were lying side by side near the nursery fender, before Nana came to tidy the room.

"Real isn't how you are made," said the Skin Horse. "It's a thing that happens to you. When a child loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but REALLY loves you, then you become Real."

"Does it hurt?" asked the Rabbit.

"Sometimes," said the Skin Horse, for he was always truthful. "When you are Real you don't mind being hurt."

"Does it happen all at once, like being wound up," he asked, "or bit by bit?"

"It doesn't happen all at once," said the Skin Horse. "You become. It takes a long time. That's why it doesn't happen often to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in your joints and very shabby. But these things don't matter at all, because once you are Real you can't be ugly, except to people who don't understand."

Just The Girl

Oh yes - we're off and running. The school week is in full swing - and ugh - we're all exhausted already. I grabbed this shot in our horribly lit kitchen - before she truly got ready for school. And all the while I had this song (now playing on this blog) running through my head - and it reminds me of her for so many reasons. First of all, snippets of it are in her cheer music - gotta love that! But too - it's the words - and how much they make me think of her...♥

She can't keep a secret
For more than an hour
She runs on 100 proof attitude power
And the more she ignores me
The more I adore her
What can I do?
I'd do anything for her

'cause she's bittersweet
She knocks me off of my feet
And I can't help myself
I don't want anyone else
She's a mystery
She's too much for me
But I keep comin' back for more
She's just the girl I'm lookin' for

1/5/10

This is one of my favorite spots in the summer - it's always quite festive and full of life. Not so today - but it was still striking in its desolation. With over 24" of snow in three days - and no end in sight - the outside is treacherous - but beautiful. In a few days all of this snow will turn slushy and dirty. In a few days, I'll no doubt be cranky and irritated that it is STILL here (it's come to stay for a long while - this is the Great Lakes, after all). But for now - I'm taking a few days to appreciate its beauty - because I know it'll be fleeting!

The Loveliest Light

It is snowing here. No - I mean it is REALLY snowing here. The kind of snow that blows and drifts - so much so that you feel the wind is going right through you. The kind of snow that makes you want to grab a blanket - and everyone you love - and huddle together with a big bowl of popcorn. The kind of snow that makes you want to go...well...nowhere. But unfortunately, like so many others, my family must go out tonight. We have errands and tutoring and all manner of things to get to. And so we'll don our coats, hats, gloves, scarves, boots and we will brave the weather and this dreadful cold. And at the end of it all - if we're very lucky - we'll come back to that soft, glowing, lovely light...the light that beckons us and bids us "Welcome back..you are safe..." The loveliest light of all...the light of home.
